I'm seriously thinking of Linuxcnc and a cad that will port directly to it. I'm so used to drawing stuff by hand I'm going to have to go through a major learning curve no matter which way I go. I'm also thinking of making my antiques into cnc so I've been reading up on howto's. I'm going to be building a shed to move my machine shop to my yard (tired of the rent). If you are using Linux, Unix or Mac OS X: Please make sure that you launch QCad from its installation directory. Eventually, I would like to be able to load DXF files, but for starters I thought just being able to draw some vectors would be fine. QCad is a 2D CAD system with which you can draw and modify plans easily. I can create dimensions but they show no label.
I would like to be able to select these and generate G-Code from them. drawings, create layers, measure length, width and area, locate points, cut and shade. I would like to draw some basic graphic primitives, like rectangles and circles and the like. I have a program in mind that I want to write, but am having problems finding the resources to learn and was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction. Especially for a novice programmer like myself. So far the experience has been both a challenge and rewarding. I have spent the last few weeks trying to learn Qt.
